1. SCOPE. This item description covers the requirements for a neck gaiter intended for use
by personnel in cold environment.
2. CLASSIFICATION. The neck gaiter shall be designed to be worn six ways: as a head
band, ski band, neck warmer, hood, balaclava, or mask and hat. Color should be Brown
436.
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1 Description. The neck gaiter shall be a universal size tube design, with open ends. The
ends shall be finished with a double chain stitch (402 or 406) (10-14 stitches per inch).
Neck gaiters shall have a label sewn to the inside, with the top of the label positioned ½ +
1/8 inch below and parallel to the edge.
3.2 Material.
3.2.1 Basic material. The basic material for the neck gaiter shall be a plain jersey knit that
is 8oz/sq.yard fabric consisting of polypropylene fabric and may contain a maximum
of 5% Lycra/spandex yarn.
3.2.2 Thread. The thread for seaming and stitching shall be consistent with the material
used for the fabric. The color of the thread shall match the basic color.
3.3 Labels. Each neck gaiter shall have two (One in English and One in Dari)
combination identification and care labels attached. The required labels shall have the
